Dear Ladies and Sirs,

we are pleased to inform you about the progress of the Stop FGM Kurdistan campaign.

We expect the Kurdish parliament to finally pass a law against FGM in September.

We are working to publish a research done this year about FGM in all of Iraqi-Kurdistan. The results are shocking: in some areas like Pishder almost 100% of women and girls are mutilated, in others the number is reaching up to 75%.

But we have good news too: In regions we are campaigning since 2005 like Germian, the number is decreasing and some villages already decided to stop this practice at all.

So we are optimistic that with all these efforts FGM may be abolished in Iraqi-Kurdistan within the next five years and we will work hard on it.
