Online Petition - Free Berivan, a young kurd! Stop the backlash against Kurdish children!

Dear President Gül,

Berivan Sayaca, a 15-year-old Kurdish girl, is a victim of Turkish law. All she wanted to do was visit her aunt, but she ended up in prison. There happened to be an illegal pro-kurdish demonstration taking place in her aunt’s town and Berivan was arrested as an alledged participant.

Due to the sharpening of Turkey’s anti-terrorist laws, Berivan has been treated as a terrorist and sentenced to eight years in jail although she is only 15 years old.

I am outraged that your government allows Berivans future, as well as that of many other Kurdish children and youth, to be so seriously disrupted. The struggle between the Turkish government and PKK, the Kurdish workers party, should not be allowed to cause such harm in the lives of Kurdish children.

I am asking you urgently to reconsider Berivan Sayaca’s case and to release her from prison.
